- Heat the oven to 350 degrees. Greese the pans.
- Cream butter and sugar together. Add eggs one at a time and beat vigorously until each is incorporated. Mix in vanilla.
- In a separate bowl, make a paste of the remaining 2 tbsp of cocoa and the food colouring. Blend into the butter.
- Sift together the remaining dry ingredients. Alternating 2 batches each. Add dry ingredients and whole milk to rhe butter mixture. In the last of milk, mix in the vinegar before adding to the butter.mix until well blended
- Divide the butter among 3 pans and bake for about 20 to 25 minutes
- Cool in a cooling rack completly.
- To assemble, remove 1 cake from its pan and place it flat side down on a serving platter. Drop about 1 cup of icing onto the cake and using a flat spatula, spread evenly over the top of first layer. Use the remaining frosting to cover the top and sides of the cake.
